2 Material Obligations of Husband to His Wife in Islam, What Are They?

2 Material Obligations of Husband to His Wife in Islam: What Are They? Marriage is a legal and lawful relationship between a woman and a man who are not mahrams at first, then become mahrams, for the purpose of worshiping Allah SWT.

Allah SWT says in surah Ar-Rum verse 21 which reads,

Meaning: “Among His signs is that He created mates for you from your own kind so that you may feel at ease with them. He makes love and affection between you. Surely in that are signs (of Allah’s greatness) for those who think.”

Marriage has a noble purpose after Sunnah from Rathra of Hadith.

Aisha Ra reported that the Messenger of Allah said:

Marriage is part of my Sunnah. Anyone who has not practiced my Sunnah is not part of my people. I’ll marry you on the last day because I boast about many of you. (HR Ibn Majah)

After marriage, both husband and wife have obligations and rights that must be met. A husband, who acts as a budget committee, is automatically a dominant duty. In Islam, the husband has an essential duty to his wife as part of his responsibility as head of the family. In this case, the husband must fulfill two duties.

1. Nafkah (Economic Maintenance).

Husbands are obligated to ensure maintenance on their wives. This includes basic needs such as food, accommodation, clothing, healthcare and more. This principle is confirmed in the Qur’an (Qs. Al-Baqarah [2]:233), where the husband is responsible for caring for the wife and children.

Nafka is not only a financial obligation, but also a protection and a general well for women. Hanner is expected to ensure that the physical and economic needs of the family are met.

2. Justice in treatment.

I remember that my husband is fair and that he is only a woman. This includes time change, caution and general treatment. The Quran highlights the importance of justice in the treatment of women in Surah.

Equity in treatment includes respect for women’s rights, listening to her and compassionate treatment. Hanner is expected to avoid unfair treatments and preferences for women. The fulfillment of these important duties is an important part of men’s guidance in the family. It follows the principles of justice, compassion and responsibility used in Islamic teachings to create harmonious and successful families.
